Why Should You Buy a Hybrid

priusIt is important to be brutally honest when it comes to why you should buy a hybrid. One of the top reasons why it would be in your best interest to buy a hybrid car is because when you buy a hybrid, it makes a really big statement about who you are as a person. Many people decide to buy a hybrid simply because it is a way for them to strike back against the people that prefer buying big gasoline-hogging sports utility vehicles or SUVs, and they also choose to buy a hybrid because it is an acknowledgment that they have passion for the environment as well.

The number of famous people that are driving around in these hybrid vehicles is also quickly becoming a reason for certain people to want to get involved on the bandwagon as it were. Do you want to drive any old vehicle, or do you want to drive what Cameron Diaz and Leonardo Di Caprio are driving?

There are a number of more serious reasons why you should consider the act of buying a hybrid. For example, hybrid cars are much simpler to operate because not only do they run much like any ordinary car, but they also present you with an opportunity for less maintenance and a vehicle that will generally be much more reliable in the long run. In a hybrid car, you simply have to pull up to the gas pump as you normally would, and fill in just as you normally would – Your hybrid vehicle is going to do all of the rest of the work. There’s no plugging it in, no wondering about limited range or long-term refueling or any of that nonsense.

Another reason to buy a hybrid is that the hybrid car is going to run just like any other car, if you can get used to the fact that the engine turns off and allows you to rely on electrical power at time. When you drive a Toyota Prius hybrid for example, you can only slightly feel it when the engine starts up and shuts down – Meaning that when you buy a hybrid, you are dealing with a type of car that is virtually indistinguishable from other vehicles, and yet you are helping the environment in very big ways.

When you buy a hybrid, you are allowing yourself to get around while using a lot less fuel. Hybrid vehicles have greater fuel efficiency because when you rely on the electric engine, you do not need to use gasoline at all. This means that when you are doing a lot of city driving, your fuel efficiency is not as bad as it is with a normal vehicle. In other words, not only are you saving the environment, but money in your own pocket as well.

Environmental Benefits of Hybrid Electric Vehicles

hondaThere are a number of environmental benefits associated with hybrid electric vehicles. Understanding what they are is one of the keys to getting the most out of your knowledge of these vehicles.

Gasoline, when it is burned, is capable of producing large amounts of carbon dioxide, which is the major gas that is responsible for contributing to global warming. These hybrid electric vehicles are not completely dependent on the use of gasoline as their sole source of power, and therefore they have worked to reduce the emissions of harmful pollutants such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide. One concrete example of this concept is the Toyota Prius, a hybrid vehicle that only consumes 4 liters worth of gasoline, allowing it to run for more than 100 kilometers. The Toyota Prius only emits approximately 104 grams worth of carbon dioxide with every kilometer that it travels.

Emission from automobiles makes up one third of the world’s total emissions of carbon dioxide, which is more than the emissions that are produced both by homes and by factories across the globe. If we do not work to reduce these pollutants, then mankind is going to face the terrifying effect associated with global warming much, much sooner than we are actually going to be prepared for. These greenhouse gasses that are in the atmosphere are working to deplete the ozone layer, which is the earth’s protection from the sun and its harmful heat. Some of the negative effects of global warming include melting of the polar ice caps in the arctic region, which are causing floods and the death of animals and plants that are sensitive to this increase in heat. With prolonged summer seasons and shortened winter seasons, people could be harmed as well.

Another environmental pro associated with hybrid electric vehicles is the reduction in exploitation of non-renewable energy sources such as gasoline and other similar petroleum products. Such products are generated out of fossil fuels, and as such, they are not capable of being recycled. If we cut down on our gasoline usage, then these natural resources will be capable of being conserved so that we can use them for other vital purposes rather than simply as fuels for our automobiles. Every day we are consuming 8.2 million barrels of gasoline to drive our cars and trucks. If the demand for this oil is greatly reduced then we will be much less dependent on the import of petroleum to support the every day driving needs of our country.

Preference, price and trend are all considerations you should be making any time you buy a vehicle, but you should also be thinking about fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness because these are also vital factors in choosing the right vehicle in this day and age.

Volkswagen Plans to Introduce Diesel Electric Hybrid Vehicle

The diesel electric hybrid car is a phenomenon that is gaining serious notoriety in Europe, but now Volkswagen is taking this phenomenon one step further and bringing it to the United States by releasing a version of the VW Golf which will be officially unveiled sometime in the latter half of 2009 and intended for the 2010 model year. This is going to be the first American version of a hybrid diesel electric vehicle, making it quite a sensation already though it has at least a year before its official release.

The Golf Hatchback that is being released by Volkswagen is more readily known as the Rabbit in North America. It is planned to be unveiled in Geneva’s upcoming Motor Show. The information that has already been leaked regarding the Volkswagen Golf / Rabbit is quite promising, as this vehicle is said to have a fuel economy of 83.1 miles per gallon imperial, or 69.9 miles per gallon US. This car is offering much lower emissions, only releasing 89 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, which is a huge improvement over the Toyota Prius Hybrid, which in comparison emits 104 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide.

The diesel engine that is being used in this unique Golf Hybrid from Volkswagen has been developed specifically to cater to consumers in the United States market, with Californian consumers targeted specifically. For this reason, this engine is going to meet all Euro 5 emissions criteria as well as passing the Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions standards, which is an even more stringent set of emissions standards. If you combine this with the fact that many forms of bio diesel are now being crafted from algae, and you will find yourself driving a much greener car than what is currently being offered on the road.

According to the station that first leaked the news about the Volkswagen Golf Hybrid Electric Vehicle, the technology that is going to be used in the Volkswagen Golf Hybrid is also going to be utilized in a wide variety of Volkswagen Group models including the Jetta Saloon, which is a sedan that sells in much greater numbers in the United States than both the Audi A3 and Rabbit combined.

A lot of information is still unknown about this particular vehicle, but what is known is relatively clear: A phenomenon that is quite popular in European countries, the hybrid diesel electric vehicle, is on its way to the United States and the rest of North America, giving American consumers a chance to take advantage of this unique technology which provides excellent mileage and lower emissions than many other hybrid vehicles. Diesel Electric Hybrid vehicles are vehicles that combine diesel engines with electric engines, allowing for vehicles that create less emissions, get more power on less gas, and are a great deal “greener” just by nature. Volkswagen is clearly taking the next logical step in green vehicle technology by providing the United States with a unique hybrid vehicle that truly packs a punch.

How to Compare Hybrid Cars

civicIt is hard to find a comparative ranking for hybrid cars, so how do you compare hybrid cars if you have trouble getting the information that you need? Luckily there are not that many types of hybrid vehicles on the market today, so when you decide to compare hybrid cars there are only a couple of options that you really need to put stock into. These hybrid vehicles come in a wide variety of different shapes and sizes, too.

So how do you compare hybrid cars? How do you judge the ranking for a small Prius in comparison to a Lexus LS, a luxury hybrid car, and a full sized hybrid like the Chevy Silverado? These vehicles actually have very little in common aside from the fact that they are hybrid vehicles.

The best selling hybrid cars, at least a couple of years ago during the boom in hybrid car manufacturing, were the Toyota Prius with 48,156 units, Toyota Highlander Hybrid with 18,127 units, Honda Civic Hybrid with 15,755 units, Lexus RX 400h with 11,193 units, Ford Escape Hybrid with 10,190 units, Toyota Camry Hybrid with 7,386 units, Honda Accord Hybrid with 3,245 units, Mercury Mariner Hybrid with 1,461 units, Lexus GS 450h with 525 units, and Honda Insight with 489 units sold.

The Toyota Hybrid car seems to be the best seller. The Prius as well as the Highlander alone are making up for about 50% of the entire hybrid market in the United States. And yet hybrid car sales are only currently accounting for approximately 1% of the entire car market in the United States. Many experts are predicting that this is going to be changing rapidly in the next few years, and it should not be difficult to see why. There are political, economic and environmental reasons why more Americans are looking toward fuel efficient alternatives to modern automobiles.

Out of all of the most efficient cars in terms of fuel economy, the top three in the nation are all green machines or hybrid vehicles. The Honda Insight gets 50 miles per gallon for the city and 66 miles per gallon on the highway. The Toyota Prius gets 50 miles per gallon for the city and 51 miles per gallon on the highway. The Honda Civic Hybrid gets 49 miles per gallon for the city and 51 miles per gallon on the highway.

Another way to compare hybrid cars is by the type of car. For example, the Toyota Prius is a small sedan, the Honda Civic Hybrid is a small sedan, the Honda Accord Hybrid is a family sedan, the Lexus RX 400h is a mid-size SUV, the Lexus GS450h is a luxury sedan, and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is a mid-sized SUV.

There are many ways to compare hybrid cars – The trick is to figure out what is most important to you and compare your options accordingly.
